Children of slain Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Reiner, are speaking out for the first time following their deaths and the arrest of their brother, Nick.

Jake and Romy Reiner expressed in a statement that they are experiencing unimaginable pain after the horrific and devastating loss of their parents. They did not directly comment on the allegations against Nick.

Nick Reiner, 32, appeared in court for the first time and waived his right to enter a plea to two charges of first-degree murder.

The couple were found dead in their Los Angeles home, with the county's medical examiner ruling that they died from multiple sharp force injuries.

Nick was taken into custody on Sunday and charged with murder by Tuesday.

The statement from Romy and Jake noted, The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren't just our parents; they were our best friends. They expressed gratitude for the support received from friends, family, and the public.

In their statement, they requested privacy and stressed the desire for their parents to be remembered for their incredible lives and love.

At the court hearing, prosecutors and Nick Reiner's defense agreed to delay his arraignment until January 7, where he will have the opportunity to enter a plea.

During the hearing, Mr. Reiner responded only with a yes, your honour when asked by Judge Theresa McGonigle if he understood his right to a speedy trial. Media was instructed not to film him as he appeared in a jail suicide-prevention smock.

If he pleads not guilty, Nick could face life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if convicted. Prosecutors have indicated that a decision on pursuing the death penalty has not yet been made.

The case has captured significant media attention, with LA Police Chief Jim McDonnell stating that the situation is heartbreaking and deeply personal, not only for the Reiner family but for the entire city.
